National Women`s Pain Clinic
The National Women’s Pain Clinic includes a review by a pain specialist, psychologist, physiotherapist and or pain nurse. Women who are in pain and are under the care of a gynaecologist or an obstetrician or midwife employed by Auckland District Health Board can be referred to this service.
Mode of referral – specialist referral only (this service is not a diagnostic service therefore it is important woman are seen by a specialist such as a gynaecologist or obstetrician first)
Referrals should be faxed to the level 9 anaesthetic department (fax 27001)
The Pain program is a 4 hour group education program for women with pelvic pain. The program is run by the National Women’s Pain Clinic and includes sessions by a pain specialist, psychologist, physiotherapist and pain nurse. The aim of the day is to encourage self management by introducing the women to some useful tools for managing their pain. The topics covered include:
- Physiology of persistent pelvic pain and dysmenorrhoea
- The importance of activity and healthy living
- Increasing activity using pacing
- Relaxation techniques
