The Well Child/Tamariki Ora health
service is free of charge. It aims to help you give your child the best start in life by protecting against illness, detecting problems early and supporting parents and families.
Birth to 4 weeks:
You will receive your Well Child/Tamariki Ora service from your LMC (lead maternity carer)
4 weeks to 4 ½ years:
You will receive Well Child/Tamariki Ora care from a recognised Well Child provider. The list below will help you to choose a provider. Your LMC can make arrangements to hand over to your chosen provider or you can contact the provider directly.

The Early Childhood Health Team is a Well Child provider delivering home-based services for infants, young children and families who have additional support needs. They are a team of public health nurses, Maori community health workers, dieticians, medical officers, refugee community health workers, social workers and a health promotion facilitator.

The Ngati Whatua o Orakei Health Services team is committed to delivering services that are ‘responsive to the needs of Maori and inclusive of others’. Registered nurses and community health workers provide Well Child services in the home and at the Orakei/Glen Innes clinics, Te Kohanga Reo, kindergartens, Puna Reo and pre-schools.

The Well Child service is provided by Plunket nurses who have done the postgraduate certificate in Primary Health Care Speciality Nursing, Well Child/Tamariki Ora strand. Other members of the team include community Karitanes and Kaiawhina, who visit clients at home or in the clinic; they hold a National Certificate in Tamariki Ora - Well Child Services Level 4. Plunket works in partnership with you to deliver a service that best meets your needs.

Pacific Fanau Well Child Care Services aim to improve the health of all Pacific Island children aged 5 years and under who have difficulty accessing health services. The service will visit families to provide information, support and education. Well Child Nurse visits and reminds families of upcoming immunisations and other scheduled Well Child checks in their homes.
Piritahi Hau Ora
Well Child/Tamariki Ora service provided on Waiheke Island by Kaupapa Maori Health Nurses as part of a multidisciplinary team to support whanau ora/family wellness. The service will visit families to provide whanau support, growth and development advice, information, education, hearing and vision screening.

This service will visit families if required. It provides whanau support, growth and development advice, information, education, hearing and vision screening. Health checks and health promotion are carried out at crèches, preschool centres and a school health programme is available in each of the island’s schools.
