Through a partnership arrangement, Birthcare Auckland provides high-quality postnatal care for women and babies who are in good health following the birth experience.
Who can go to Birthcare?
Well women with well babies will be transferred to Birthcare soon after birth. Birthcare is also able to look after women and babies who are making a good recovery after caesarean birth.
Is there a charge?
If you are entitled to free maternity services from National Women’s Health, there is no charge for Birthcare postnatal care in a standard room.
For a fee, you can choose to upgrade to a private room with ensuite, fridge, television and an upgraded menu. Private rooms can accommodate your partner for overnight stays. Check the schedule of charges on the

Birthcare services
Located adjacent to Auckland Domain in Titoki Street, Parnell, Birthcare provides expert postnatal care for mothers and babies, breastfeeding advice, physiotherapy and parent craft education. All rooms include a direct phone line and there is free undercover parking.
The facility has a large team of experienced midwives and nurses, some of whom are lactation consultants. A paediatrician is also available if the need arises.

Things to remember
- You will need to register with Birthcare before the birth of your baby. Ask Birthcare or your LMC for a registration form or complete registration on-line at the Birthcare website.
- You will need your baby’s car seat for the transfer to Birthcare in your vehicle after the birth.
