Donors and surrogacy

Click on the sections below to find out more about surrogacy or treatment programmes using donor eggs or sperm.

Donor and surrogacy options

Donor egg

Fertility PLUS can help with advertising for an egg donor, or talking with friends and family about the possibility of egg donation.  We provide treatment for both private and publicly funded cycles. Using donor eggs may be suggested if you have a raised FSH level, have previously responded poorly to IVF treatment, or have had your ovaries removed in the past.

Donor insemination

Donor insemination (DI) is a procedure where sperm from a donor is placed into the uterus.

DI treatment is offered by Fertility PLUS to heterosexual couples, same-sex couples and single women. Heterosexual couples may request DI due to poor sperm quality, or a complete absence of sperm.

Publicly-funded treatment is available to women who meet eligibility criteria. If you are not eligible for publicly funded treatment, Fertility PLUS also provides a private service for DI.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy treatment involves having another woman carry a child to term on behalf of a family.  This treatment might be recommended for a woman who has an abnormality of her uterus or no uterus.

There is publicly-funded treatment available for some couples. To be eligible for public treatment there must be a medical reason for surrogacy.

All surrogacy treatments require ethics committee approval before treatment can commence.

Embryo donation

Couples who have embryos left frozen in storage after they have completed their families are able to donate these embryos to another infertile couple. For more information on this programme, contact Fertility PLUS.
